19 Boot Camp

Description

English (en) — by dalu

19 Part One: Boot Camp (often written “19 Boot Camp” or “Nineteen
Boot Camp”) - the 1988 multi-event action for Commodore 64 from
Cascade Games.

Train like a raw recruit through four timed trials, where precision,
stamina, and morale decide if you pass or wash out.

Core loop
- pick up to four recruits and take turns on each event
- clear assault course, qualify at the range, finish jeep runs
- survive unarmed bouts and bank a high rating to complete training

Systems and items
- power bar jumps and climbs - hit the third segment to clear obstacles
- shooting range - center hits score more; civilians are heavy penalties
- jeep training - collect helmet, boot, ammo box, dog tags, jerry can,
star for bonus; damage lowers top speed
- morale, stamina, coordination - ratings build across all events
- save rating to disk or tape for a planned part 2 continuation

Level design and feel
Four self-contained challenges riffing on Combat School. Snappy joystick
inputs, chunky sprites, and a catchy Rob Hubbard take on Hardcastle’s
“19” keep the pressure up under strict time limits.

Why it is notable
- official tie-in to Paul Hardcastle’s hit “19”
- planned sequel “19 Part 2: Combat Zone” never shipped

Tips
- on the assault course, build speed first, then time the release
- short, accurate bursts at the range beat spray-and-pray
- in unarmed combat, mix jabs with big moves to manage energy
